ShowBizRadio has been informed that the Washington Area Theatre Community Honors (WATCH) Award Ceremony for Sunday night has completely sold out.

ShowBizRadio has been informed that the Washington Area Theatre Community Honors (WATCH Awards) Award Ceremony for Sunday night has completely sold out. The capacity of the Birchmere is 500. So if you were going to try to get your tickets at the door before the ceremony on Sunday evening, you are unfortunately out of luck. ShowBizRadio is planning to live-tweet the awards, so follow us on Twitter to get the results as they are announced. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 7pm, and should end around 10pm.

Ceremony Performers without tickets are asked to coordinate single ticket needs through their director and theatre company. Award Presenters without tickets will be asked to present another year. Nominees without tickets should work with their theatre company to arrange for someone to accept their award for them if their name is read.

In late February, we were concerned that ceremony tickets may sell out completely. So we asked a WATCH Board member if we could broadcast the award ceremony live, like we did for the reading of the nominees in January. The WATCH Board of Directors expressed concerns with the performance broadcast rights issues, privacy concerns of people speaking on stage, and addressing financial aspects of their relationship with the Birchmere. Making a public archive of the event video is also not an option because of privacy expectations of speakers.

At this point, we are planning to do brief, live interviews with people before the ceremony and at intermission. You can tune into the live stream at UStream.com. Be aware that there are ads that will play over the live broadcast every 10 to 15 minutes.

If you have any ideas on things we can do to help expand the audience of the WATCH ceremony, please send us an email.
